ABAD Quarterly Watch — Q2 2025

God is always faithful!

Following our family trip to Asia at the end of 2024, I received news from my employer that my position was being terminated due to the conclusion of a project we had worked on for the past four years. In that moment, I turned to God and asked, “Lord, what is my next assignment?”

One of the great assurances we have in our Heavenly Father is that nothing catches Him by surprise. Before I even received the news, He had already prepared the next step. My part was to trust Him fully and allow His peace to settle in my heart, knowing He would provide for me and my family.

After nearly five months of waiting and seeking, I’m thrilled to share that a new and exciting job opportunity has opened up for me. During this season of uncertainty, one verse remained a constant source of encouragement:

And I am certain that God who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. — Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

The Lord is truly faithful. Our role is simply to trust Him—and that trust makes all the difference.

Your generosity continues to make a powerful impact through A Buck a Day, helping missionaries share the gospel across Asia. Thank you for your ongoing faithfulness and support.

Together, we are building up Christ’s kingdom.

MISSIONARIES IN HISTORY

Lillian Hunt Trasher, lovingly known as “Mama Lillian” or the “Nile Mother,” was an American Christian missionary whose enduring legacy of compassion and faith began with the founding of Egypt’s first orphanage.

Born on September 27, 1887, in Jacksonville, Florida, Lillian was raised in a Catholic household in Brunswick, Georgia, though her family had Quaker roots. Her early life was marked by a deep sense of faith and a growing desire to serve the vulnerable. In 1910, after breaking off her engagement, Lillian felt a clear call from God to serve in Africa.

She arrived in Assiout, Egypt, in 1911 and soon rescued an abandoned baby girl—an act that led to the founding of the Lillian Trasher Orphanage. With no formal backing, Lillian relied entirely on faith, prayer, and the generosity of donors. Over the years, she opened her arms to orphans, widows, and the disabled, navigating epidemics, war, and financial hardship with remarkable perseverance and trust in God.

By 1924, the orphanage was home to 300 children. Through Lillian’s leadership and unwavering devotion, it continued to grow, eventually caring for more than 25,000 children by the time of her passing on December 17, 1961. At its peak, the orphanage housed 1,200 residents.

Today, the Assemblies of God of Egypt continues her mission. The orphanage currently serves around 400 orphans, 40 widows, and 50 staff members, supported largely by Egyptian churches.

Lillian’s life is a testament to what God can do through one person fully surrendered to His call. Her story, told in Lillian Trasher: The Greatest Wonder in Egypt by Janet and Geoff Benge, remains an inspiration to believers and missionaries around the world.

Thanks be to God for the legacy of Lilian Hunt Trasher and for all who labor to advance His Kingdom.

MISSIONARIES IN THE FIELD

A Divine Calling

Our missionaries in Thailand, Sherwin and Ruby, recently shared what inspires and motivates them to continue pursuing God’s call on their lives.

“For Christ’s love compels us . . .”

Raising Missionaries (and Buffalo) in Nepal

One of the callings of RHMI, our mission partner in Nepal, is to raise up native missionaries. Jay and his family are among those answering this call. Through his ministry, twelve house churches have been established across Western Nepal.

To support his family and mission work, Jay raises buffalo—a practical and sustainable livelihood. A buffalo typically produces 4 to 12 liters of milk per day, begins calving around age 3 to 4, and can continue to produce calves until about age 12 to 15. As his ministry expands, Jay also hopes to grow his buffalo farming to help sustain both his family and outreach efforts.

Farms, Faith, and Fellowship in Northern Mongolia

Our mission partner in Thailand, the AMO Foundation, recently completed a 20-day mission trip across several Asian nations, including Mongolia. In the northern region of Mongolia, they connected with believers in Zuunkharaa, a city in Selenge Province. There, they had the opportunity to learn how local Christians sustain their families and ministries through farming.

First-Generation Believers Take the Step of Faith

Faith and Jeff have dedicated themselves to reaching the youth. In April, they celebrated the baptism of fourteen first-generation Thai-Myanmar believers. Praise God!
